For my ISCI 301 class, I researched how students perceive their professors’ openness to using ChatGPT in the classroom. I was drawn to this topic after class discussions revealed that professors’ attitudes can greatly influence how students experience and engage with the tool.

Most students reported feeling moderately to not confident that their professors would support ChatGPT use, with science majors encountering the most negative sentiment and CIC majors seeing more positive mentions.

I created visualizations in RStudio—with help from ChatGPT to troubleshoot coding errors—and conducted a sentiment analysis using the AFINN lexicon, which showed that overall student responses leaned more negative than positive.
